Merry-Go-Round Children Holding Hands
Who among us can say they have never, ever not enjoyed cutting out a paper doll or watching someone else really talented in scissorcraft?
The idea of applying this friendship ring of children snowflake cutouts to flags of the world struck me as a fun way to not only encourage family or togetherness, but as a unique way to introduce concepts of patriotism and flag history.
Thus, Patrioflakes were born. I researched hundreds of flags and started with the ones with the least detail, because they were the easiest, heh, heh, heh. It was a kick to arrange the merry go round template in just the right place over some of these flags. I tried to get the most detail showing through my little friendship playground gang so that the kids could recognize the flag even if it is in a bit of an abstract form.
It is easy to create a patrioflake of your particular or favorite flag. I use the 4013 merry go round image as my snowflake template but any plain, not too fancy of a snowflake will suffice. If a government agency illustrated the flag because usually the banner contains an image of the state or county seal. The seals can usually be located in a greatly enlarged format and if you can get your hands on one just use your art program to layer the snowflake over the flag design or seal and cut out all the parts. Sound complicated but it really isn't.
Oh, and I also included a little miniature real version of the flag up in the left-hand corner for quick reference as to what the actual flag looks like. This will help the children color the flag correctly if they choose to, myself I would change all the colors just to be a brat.
