Folding Snowflake Pattern Template Craft Activity:
As I was learning about all the different snow crystal classifications symbols I thought about applying a few to my folding pattern templates so that children and other interested parties could take a crack at making a snowflake based upon a scientific symbol.
Snowflakes come in more than just the 6-sided variety, so I made formats for the 12, 2 and 3 sided as well as the more common 6 sided shapes. The 4 sided shapes are provided just for their entertainment since there are no 4 sided snow flakes in nature.
Snowflakes begin as hexagonal shaped tiny particles of ice that do not shapeshift into squares. Learn about the Science of Snow and Ice Crystal formation.
Print templatess on regular or colored paper. Use sharp scissors, and for intricate templatess use small cuticle scissors.
Make Uniquely Personal Snowflake Designs
Each of these templates were designed using actual snow and ice crystal classifications. Your snowflake will resemble a real live snowflake!
Be as creative as you want, there are no mistakes in art only opportunity. No two snowflakes are alike, at least that's what they say as not all snowflakes are symmetrical, some are just plain wierd looking. Snowflake just might have twin brothers or sisters for all we know. Check out Magono and Lee's extensive study on snow classifications or as snowflake calls it, Snowflake's Family Tree.
