First Step 6 Sided Outlines

6-Branched Hexagon First Step Outlines

First Step designs are simple to understand absolute beginning level printables for preschool and young children. These patterns are useful in introducing math concepts of symmetry.

Most First Step patterns are 2, 3 and 4 sided for the simple reason of simplicity. Cuts and folds become more complicated with 6 and 12 sided hexagon patterns. These six sided easy patterns should be the little munchkins last step before they advance to more complicated designs.

Make soft-sided christmas ornaments out of cloth or foam sheets. Color with crayons or markers, the cut out and tape onto windows as sun catchers.

First Step make great crochet and knitting projects patterns. A fun project might be to transfer the designs onto latch hook rug squares and make some cool wall hangings or throw rugs. Imagine stepping out of the shower onto a soft mat of colorful snowflakes!

Elementary 6 Sided Outlines

Most First Step patterns have just two or three basic cut shapes (circle, square, triangle). These simple shapes are repeated over 2, 3, 4, and 6 sided designs to demonstrate how varied results can be obtained for different folds using similar cuts.

The design #2001 forms a cross or an "X" shape when folded with the 2 sided pattern. But when applied to a 3 sided pattern #3001 the same "X" transforms into three arrows converging. When #2001 is applied to the 4 sided pattern
#4001, the cross or "X" resembles the quadrant cross.
when #2001 is applied to a
#6001 6 sided pattern, the shape resembles the Union Jack which is a combination of several different crosses.
